The financial security of families and the economic health of the nation are affected by the high and rapidly rising cost of health care. A recent study found that ten percent of people were denied because of the problem of paying their medical bills. For the non elderly population, they pay out of the pocket health a cost that exceeds their disposable income. The growth in health expenditures routinely outpaces growth in income, making health insurance less affordable for all and making it more costly to extend coverage to a lot of people who are uninsured. These rising health costs also make public health programs more difficult to sustain, straining federal and state budgets. The challenge today, is to address the high costs and cost growth without jeopardizing the access to new and needed services.
